Tutu Shopping Tips – Make sure you get your moneys worth!

Top three questions to ask when shopping for a tutu:

1 - What quality of tulle is used?

All of our tutus are made using high quality, soft, flame retardant tulle made in North America.

2 – What material is used for the waist band?

All of our tutus skirts are made with ¾” no-roll elastic to allow room for growth and to ensure the tutu does not twist. Tutus made on ribbon will not allow any room for growth. In addition, ribbon made tutus require you to tie a bow to secure it around your child’s waist. Ribbon is not the easiest material to keep in a bow so it will loosen easily and fall off. With an elastic waist, your child can put their tutu on/off on their own.

3 – How much tulle is used in the tutu?

This is probably the most important question you can ask! Most tutu shops use high quality tulle and an elastic waist band, but how full will the tutu appear on your child? All tutus made by The Dreaming Ladybug Boutique use between 200-250 feet (66-83 yards) of 6” strips in a child size tutu knee length skirt (2T-6T)! Longer skirts and dresses use at least double that! Our tutus are made by knotting the tulle around the elastic band. The knots are packed tightly together to ensure the elastic is completely covered and provides the maximum fullness. The way our tutus are displayed in our photos is exactly how it will be on your child – they do not simply hang down – they are full!

Tutu Care Instructions

Your child will love her new tutu so much it will likely be a challenge to get it off them! After a fun filled day of princess play, your tutu might need a little TLC to get it back in shape:

  • Always hang your tutu to preserve its shape

  • To remove crumpling/wrinkling, gently comb your fingers through the tulle from the waist down and give a gentle tug at the tips

  • To help remove wrinkles hang your tutu in the bathroom when taking a hot shower or spray water with a water bottle and hang to dry

  • Do not wash in the washing machine – this will ruin your tutu!

  • Spot clean or hand wash only with soap and luke warm water, straighten by running your fingers through the tutu and hang to dry
